Assessment of quantitative data within a sequence stratigraphic framework permits a better understanding of the net versus gross source and reservoir thickness in a given locality. The 14 papers in this volume, including case studies, describe such problems as variability within source rock systems, geochemical variability of organic matter and hydrocarbon products as a function of depositional setting, and the relationship between accumulation of organic-rich strata and sea level.
